Outdoor Programs

Happy Tales Animal Sanctuary has become a destination for children and youth looking for hands-on experience with animals, farm routine, developing an understanding of a plant-based lifestyle, and time well spent in the great outdoors.

Through class trips, summer compassion camps, PA day programs, events and volunteer days, we help children, youth and adults develop a personal understanding of themselves, recognizing their own special skills, talents, abilities and fostering in them a sense of self-worth. Our humane education programs offer a unique learning opportunity through hands-on activities with animals, supporting the development of empathy and compassion.

Compassionate Learning

Happy Tales is not a petting zoo and as such we educate or visitors on the importance of respecting the animals in their space. The animals are not here to entertain us, but to help teach us the importance of respecting all life, of fostering compassion and empathy and to help people open their circle of compassion to all animals.

Learning Through Play

We offer education programs for children, youth and adults with a focus on building compassion for all living things. With an emphasis on community building, empathy, violence prevention and respect for the natural world, our humane education programs foster compassion, empathy and respect through inclusive programs like our Compassion Camps, ‘Little Hands’ volunteer days, school and community group visits, events and tours.

Allowing children to learn through play, and experiencing the animals by seeing, touching and interacting is extremely impactful. It is our mandate to offer an inclusive experience to all children and youth regardless of socio-economic status or physical and cognitive ability.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all Outdoor Programs have been cancelled for the 2020 season. We are currently revising and building on our Outdoor Program offering, and are excited and optimistic about what the 2021 season will hold. Stay tuned for updates from our social media platforms and be sure to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter to keep up to date with new developments.

In the mean time, you can visit our Education Portal for activities and information surrounding compassionate living, plant-based diets and fun animal facts!
